Early Installation

This was done in my Spring semester in 2009, it's the coolest thing I've done so far at MICA. I enjoyed the craft involved in the project, and it took a lot of planning and playing with materials to achieve my goal.

I hung 64 strings, each 10 ft long, on a gridded frame at 1 ft intervals (8 x 8 = 64). I placed dots of glow in the dark acrylic paint on the strings, to achieve the affect of a 3 dimensional star field. I used a black light to super charge the dots of paint (little fyi, black light makes glow in the dark objects glow really bright), and I blocked all outside sources of light (windows, doors, etc.) so when I turned off the black light, the only thing visible are the dots. It was a very neat experience to be in the room, and it captured my early memories of seeing countless stars in the sky. It made some people motion sick.
